Four late withdrawels Tyler Dawson, Ben Jones and Jamie Birdsall (un-availability) and Tom Gargan (injured) meant that York Lokos travelled to Thorne with only 16 fit players. In a league where teams are allowed to use 20 players York were always facing an up-hill battle.
Thorne opened the scoring after only three minutes with an un-converted try. On six minutes York went further behind when Thorne scored a converted try to take the score to 10-0. On fifteen minutes York sprang into life when impressive centre Liam Watling made a break and off-loaded the ball to the supporting Mark Musgrove to race fifty metres for a try. Arran Thompson added the extras to reduce the deficate to 10-6. Further Lokos pressure resulted in them getting a penelty in front of the posts. Thompson again goaled to make the scores 10-8. Just as York were in the assendency there was an enforced break in play due to referee Dave Asquith requiring treatment for an ankle injury. Once the game resumed Thorne regained the impetous with two tries one of which was converted to make the half-time score 20-8 in favour of Thorne.
Injuries to Ben Dent (knee) John Hough (ankle) and Lewis Sharp (jaw) meant York played most of the second half with only thirteen fit players. Thorne started to take control of the match with three further tries taking the score to 34-8. Musgrove stormed onto a ball from Wayne Foster to crash over for his second try in a man of the match performance.
