Haworth Park Match Report
As the score suggests the game was fairly one sided. There were periods of the game when the Lokos had to defend their line, with some great sliding defence.
Prop forward Jason Harper (8 mins) opened the scoring, bursting over from close range off a short pass from Ben Jones. Jones adding the extras.
On 12 minutes Tom Gargan raced over for a try which Jones goaled. Jones went over under the posts and added the goal to make the scores 18-0 after only 16 minutes. Centre Benjamin Dent making his competative debut for the lokos went over for a try (24 mins) to which Jones again added the extras. On 28 minutes substitute forward Wanye Foster scored with Jones scoring his fifth goal, making the score 30-0.
On 32 minutes Haworth Parks outstanding player Sean Bass got what proved to be a consolation try.
Three minutes later the Lokos scored another try through the outstanding Liam Watling, being used out in the centre as opposed to his normal front row role.
This proved to be the last score of the first half.
Halftime score 34-4
In the first ten minutes of the second half Yorks over eagerness to rush the play contributed to several handling errors.
However on 50 minutes winger Gareth Howell went in for a try out wide set up by Dent.
Seven minutes later Howeel went in for an almost identical try.
On 67 minutes another debutant Jamie Birdsall made his mark on the game, intercepting a pass directly from an Haworth Park scrum and racing 60m un-opposed to score under the posts. Tyler Dawson returning to the club after a season out added the goal to take the score to 48-4.
On 70 minutes captain John Hough finished off a flowing phase of attacking rugby with a try wide out. Hooker Tom Gargan returned to the field to score two quick tries to complete his hat-trick. Dawson goaled both tries to make the score 64-4.
On 78 minutes Birdsall scored another superb try after a pass from hardworking forward Mat Chapman created an overlap to send him on a 75m race to the line. Birdsall had to much pace for the cover defence to score under the posts. Dawson added the extras to make the final score Lokos 70 Haworth Park 4.
In his first game for the club Arran Thompson was outstanding. As was man of the match Benjamin Dent.
Other debutants Joseph Renard-Smith, Lewis Sharp and the speedy Jamie Birdsall played well.Prop Jason Harper had his normal barnstorming game and was well supported by Dean Winspear and Mark Musgrove.
With five players making their competative debuts and two players returning to the club after a season out this was a very solid performance from the Lokos.
