York Lokomotive 48 vs. 14 Leeds Akkies
The Lokos’ gave the best performance of the season this Saturday, against a good Leeds Akkies side. The afternoon somewhat belonged to Johnny Waldron with the elusive scrum half scoring four tries and causing havoc all game but it was the joint team effort which was the highlight of the day.
It took just 3 minutes for the York side to get on the board with the ever impressive Ben Jones going over for the first of his brace of tries, he then went on to set up what was probably the try of the afternoon with slick handling and enthusiastic support play leading up to winger Paul Cross finishing the 4 points off. Just 5 minutes later Lokos were in again with a good effort from full back Tom Dunmore who then converted his own try to give the home side an 18 point advantage. Waldron then scored the first of his 4 after slicing through the Akkies defence. The Leeds outfit then showed some fight and good handling sent there winger in, in the corner. From a short kick off Lokos’ looked to be in for another but the ref from 40yards away judged the Andy Henson had knocked the ball on over the line. Akkies then went in for there second try of the day after what looked like there player had been held up but the referee ruled that he had got the ball down. Craig Fox had the last laugh of the half after a huge bomb went up and with Akkies unable to deal with it collected after the bounce and ran over to score given the home side a 34-10 lead at the 40 minute mark. The second half then seemed to become one way traffic with Jones’ second and Waldron going over for 3 more after the Leeds side found him too much to handle. Although Akkies scored the last points of the game after sustained pressure on the York line, around 4 sets the Lokos’ finally collapsed to give away the 4 points. York Lokomotive now sit 4th but on equal points with Cottingham who are 3rd but have a better for and against, next week is another must win against 2nd placed Thorne Moorends Marauders which hopefully after another win will put York into 3rd place with a chance of even finishing 2nd.
